Don Stauffer
Personal Information

Current Residence: Coon Rapids, MN

Family Status: Wife Jean, three married children, four grandchildren

I started modeling at about age six or seven, completed first model (stick and tissue flying airplane model) at age eight. Built mostly airplanes at first, soon added model race cars, then ships. Even tried a bit of model railroading. Models were wood at first, then plastic models appeared in hobby shops. Still build a lot with wood. I do a lot of scratch building, in addition to kits. Learned how to do resin casting, then how to make my own decals. Latest skill I picked up was doing my own photo-etch.

In addition to building model race cars I also own and drive a vintage midget dirt track car. I still build all genre of models. My model race car interests are primarily in older (vintage) open wheel and dirt track modifieds though I do build a few contemporary race cars now and then.

Modeling Area

Description: My current workshop is a 20 x 12 area in basement (we paid extra for a full basement under family room, which is my shop area). I have a modeling bench, an electronics bench, a machine tool bench, and a woodworking bench, along with four shelf units (completely inadequate shelf space, but no more room in shop). This is the largest workshop I have ever had, but then no workshop is ever big enough, right?
