Mounting wings and mirrors

After finishing a build, the last thing you want is to bumb it on display and knock the mirror off. Or upon arriving at a show, realize that mabey you did take that one off-ramp alittle too fast due to the wing laying beside your car, rather than on it. This is not a revellation by any means but perhaps a reminder that its easy to a few extra steps towards a clean AND bombproof build.
The simple list of supplies consists of the body, the wing, CA glue, .025 music wire or brass and a .025 drill bit.

Start by drilling a hole the same size as the wire in the wing mounts Take care to drill these very straight so as to make assembly straight and easy.

Then glue the rod into the hole with CA. I leave the rod long until the glue dries, then trim it to length. This allows me to handle and align it better.

Once the wing is done, I simple place it gently onto the deck lid and press lightly once its square. This will leave very faint marks in the clearcoat to pilot your drill. Repeat the process for all of the pins remembering to keep things square and aligned.

After a dry test fit, you should be ready to glue it to the body. This pin mount also allows for the use of less glue to avoid any of those embarrassing glue blobs.

This pin mount also works extrememly well on side mirrors. Simply follow the same steps and watch your alignment. Minor alignment tweaks can be done if needed by enlarging the hole or bending the pin.

There you have it folks, a prooven no-woories mounting method. This particular build has weathered three shows and I presume many more without a problem!
