Airfix

Cons: Lack of overall detail, decals very poor

A small description for a small kit. Airfix released a set of 1/25 scale bikes a few years back. These included a Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and the Suzuki described here. While not up to the standard of most of the race bike kits on the market, they do fill a void being on of the few offerings in this scale.

Upon opening the small box, you notice the simplicity of this kit. Only 26 parts to the bike and a 4 piece rider figure. Two sheets of decals are included, one for the bike, one for the rider. The most noticeable piece is the one-piece fairing/windvisor molded in clear styrene.

The entire build took me less than 10hrs total. This included prep and painting time. The majority of the assembly is trouble free and the fit of the parts is decent. The only tricky part is the attachment of the fairing, care must be taken not to nick the paint while spreading it over the mounting pins.

The biggest let down is the decals. While they look reasonable at first, after applying them, they look blotchy and transparent. My set also had some of the white backing missing on the lower sponsor decals.

Overall I would reccomend this kit to most, simply because it fills a nice spot due to its scale. However, do not expect an overly detailed piece or accuracy.
